Kenyon admits double Carleton percentage wise - and nearly 5 times at the rate of Amherst with 55% submitting a test and a 31/34 range. 63% are in the top 10% and 86% in the top 25%.Grinnell is anything but preppy. According to my PR "Best Colleges" book, 74% of Grinnell's students came from public high schools, as opposed to 47% at Kenyon. Grinnell also has a significantly higher percent of students of color, as the college has made ethnic and racial diversity a true priority in recruitment.

The village is about as safe as any college campus, and likely safer than the campuses of most large colleges.
P.S. Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington may be of interest to you. Whitman is smaller than Kenyon College with just about 1,450 students but is more liberal and has strong programs in biology, economics, and environmental science. I agree with whomever suggested Kenyon is the odd man out here. It is also more preppy, wealthy and athletic than the other two IMO. Kenyon has (by far) the smallest number of poor and middle-class kids; all three have comparable numbers of top 1% and top 10% families, but Amherst almost certainly has the most 0.1 and 0.01% types.
